How can I get the approximate value of 24 diamonds with combined weight of 2.3 carats?

Stones ranging in size from 0.05 carat to 0.25 carat (that's just a guess)

  1. Try a pawn shop - for pawn - 20% of value - for sale 50% of value.
  2. I suspect Eddie that you don't want to go walking around with that...usually people go to a reputable jeweler and ask them to value the diamond (ring?) for insurance purposes and pay them their fee. The fee used to cost $25 although the price of everything has gone up since the time I did that. Then you give the original to your insurance company and keep a copy for your safety deposit box.
  3. The answer would be "How long is a piece of string". without knowing the exact size of eace stone, without knowing the exact color of each stone, without knowing the exact cut of each stone, and without knowing the exact clarity of each stone it would be impossible to tell. A pawnbroker would give only 10% of the value, otherwise they should not be in business. The typical profit margin for main stream Jewelers is 400%. And as a lot of Valuers charge a percentage of the final valuation, the tendency would be to value high. The next thing is are you buying or are you selling? Big difference. But if you say an average H color Si clarity Round diamond of 0.10 ct you can buy them wholesale for US$600 per carat but if you did a bit of searching you could get them overseas for US$400 per carat. Maybe even less. They would Value up to $2000 per carat depending on the Valuer/Jeweler. So be careful what you buy. If you go to a jeweler ask to borrow the ring and take it to a pawnbroker and see what they will pay for it before buying it.... I don't think they will do it. You could also ask them how much they will buy it back for if you do not want it any more, most jewelers would not even consider it. If I was asked I would say 80% of purchase price.Less any wear and tear of course. I will finish with the saying "Jewelery bought retail is NOT an investment"
