Are the best quality diamonds white or clear (at a glance)?

I was wondering if anyone can tell me, if a diamond looks white when you look at it normally (not through an eye glass) is it likely to be of a better or worse quality than if it looks clear? Thanks Jaycie

clear is better colour clarity how clear it is cut more facets make more light shine through carat weight of it
I would say clear as it shows their's less impurities in there... thats just a very basic guess
clear is worth more, though currently the most expensive is actually yellow diamons - it's weird as you wouldn't think it but they're the rarest ones to get as there's a limited amount of them. Diamonds are often tricky though as a lot of people sell things like Swarovski crystals and try to pass them as diamonds so if you're thinking of getting some go to a reputable jeweller.
Some steps are: 1) scratching/scuffing. As we all know diamonds are really quite hard! CZ really isnt..... if you're looking at a ring and can get a loupe or magnifiying glass, have a good look at the facets of the stone (tilt it so that the reflection is compeltely on the surface). CZs of any age will almost definietly show light scratching and scuffing - diamonds are very unlikely to. 2) 'sharp edges' - its possible to cut a diamond much more 'finely' than a CZ - so the edges between the facets will always be very sharp on a diamond. Obviously experience is rather helpful here cos otherwise you dont know what you should be comparing to, but if you have a chnce to look at both together you can clearly see differences the other tests tend to require toys - like heat and electrical conductivity...
i think clear diamond are betta. i think the reason that some of them look a bit white is because of reflections. by the way, if it looks abnormally white, it might be fake. by the way, good diamonds dont reflect the walls and stuff very much, like fake diamonds are just very glittery. hope i helped=]
if it looks clear or colorless, it means that stone of top color, white ones have less value
