Is it possible / advisable to have an eternity band ring sized?

I have an eternity band engagement ring that needs to be sized down about 1/2 a size. Is this going to compromise the integrity of the ring or the placement of the diamonds lining the band? Has anyone had an eternity ring sized down with any success? I would rather wear the ring big than destroy it in the process of sizing. Thanks.
